How to Find the Best Yoga Style to Do At Work

Working on numerous tasks in the office can be very stressful and exhausting. One of the best ways to refresh your mind and your body is to do yoga. This practice can send your mind into a relaxed and calm state. Moreover, it can help release the tension accumulated in your muscles from sitting for long periods

There are numerous styles of yoga and not every one of them is ideal to do at your workstation. Some forms can be easy to do, while there are other styles that can be challenging. If you’d like to try doing this meditative exercise at work but you’re not sure how to go about it, read on to find which style is best to do.

Which Type of Yoga is the Simplest and Easiest To Do?

There are forms that can be physically demanding, and there are styles that are easily done. While there are many types, there’s one specific style that’s ideal for people who sit a lot, whether at a desk, during a commute, while watching on the couch, and so on. This is called yin yoga. It is practiced seated and laying down, using a great number of props such as blankets, yoga blocks, bolsters, and so on.

What is Yin Yoga?

Originally developed to help ancient yogis prepare themselves for their lengthy meditation practices, yin yoga can help condition the body’s connective tissues. Fascia, the tissue that covers the muscles and internal organs, is the one that provides support and binds the muscles together for easy movement. This group of connective tissues stretches from the head to the toes, from the skin to the bones, and everywhere in between.

Fascia can get stiff and sore, especially if you lead a sedentary lifestyle. It can also get twisted if you do too many repetitive movements. Comprised of slow-paced movements with seated postures that are held for longer periods of time, Yin yoga poses can help in lengthening the muscles and connective tissue.

Yin yoga poses require you to place supports such as yoga blocks, blankets, or pillows between you and the floor. Once you’re in position, you can relax everything as much as possible and let gravity do the work. You ease into each pose instead of using a lot of energy to go into maximum depth. Yin yoga invites you to go as far as you can so that you feel some sensation but remain relaxed elsewhere in your body. It’s also recommended to move at a snail’s pace when transitioning out of a Yin yoga pose; the slower you go, the better.

Which Style is the Hardest?

Ashtanga is a style that is considered the most challenging. It has fast-paced sequences of linked poses that one moves through without rest. This form also uses a special breathing technique that allows one to focus the mind and control the flow of breath through the body.

What is the Most Effective Style of Yoga?

All forms of this practice are effective, no matter which one you choose. Each type is a great way to stretch and strengthen the body, keep your mind focused, and relax your spirit.

Final Note

Practicing yoga can help improve your range of motion, increase circulation, calm your mind, and make you feel refreshed. Yin Yoga is a style of yoga that is comprised of simple and easy-to-do poses, allowing you to reduce the tension in your muscles and enhance your senses. Try it out!

If you find yourself wondering if you’re doing the poses in the correct manner or not, it’s always best to seek the advice of a yoga teacher. You can also join a class, try different studios, and even try different styles before sticking with the one that you want to dedicate yourself to.
