How does a lumbar roll work and why should you consider using one at your work desk or when driving?
A lumbar roll offers you more than just back support. It actually helps align your spine properly while you are sitting. It does this by forcing you to sit in such a way that the natural curve of your spine is supported.
Most lumbar rolls come with a strap that you use to attach it to your chair. Placing the roll in the right position is important so you get the most benefit from it. So, how do you place the roll the right way?
The trick is in finding the area on your seat where this support should be placed. This can be done with you sitting in your chair to locate the curve of your spine. Since a lumbar roll has adjustable straps that hold it in place, keeping it at the right position should be easy.
- The first thing you do is to sit in your chair and find the curve of your spine. Make sure to have your pelvis go as far back into your chair as possible. Also, make sure that when you’re seated, your feet are planted firmly and flat on the floor.
- Next, place the roll above your belt line.
- Once you’ve determined where the roll should be placed, you can then anchor it to your chair with the use of the straps that come with it.
